#1630

WEDGWOOD: Superb pair of Fairyland Lustre vases, in shape 3451, with pattern z4968, a variant of ‘Pillar’. This shows the palace of His Wang Mu, the Chinese Queen of the Fairies; the pine, plum and the peach tree grow on the shores, and the hairy-tailed tortoise swims in the waters, all symbols of longevity. ‘Pillar’ was an early Fairyland pattern, and was adapted for this shape when it was introduced into the range. Daisy Maekig-Jones’ mastery of the colours and effects made available by the Wedgwood lustre glazes is shown here, in a truly breathtaking pair of vases.

12" (30.5cm) tall. C1925.

Invisible restoration to a pin-head glaze chip on the foot of one vase.
Pair: $39.500

Perfect: $29,000

Restored: $17,000
